Glass Containers - Beatson

Recycled glass that we put in the furnace originates from either our own production or purchased glass "cullet" that is purchased from recycling companies - originating from the glass collection points around the country.

Other points to note are that glass is 100% recyclable ad infinitum, there is no yield loss to glass "cullet" that is put in the furnace, ie. for every 1000 kgs of glass cullet that goes in you get 1000 kgs out. The use of glass cullet brings a better homogeneity to the product and also lowers the melting temperature thus reducing the carbon emissions.

There is an overview of this of the 'Process Flow' on the www.beatsonclark.co.uk website. This has been used by external bodies for training purposes and gives a very good understanding of the actual melting and forming process (including the raw materials).
